The microscope is actually run by a different computer from the one you use to control it. It’s called the instrument controller, here is how to restart and initialize it:

  1. Open the “instrument controller” remote-desktop link on the workstation desktop.
  2. REMOVE SAMPLE and DROP OBJECTIVE (this is critical as initialization will home the stage, damaging any objectives in the path)
  3. Close the instrument controller window that is open in the new remote-desktop window that pops up.
  4. Double click the “instrument controller” icon on the left side of the remote-desktop… (can’t remember the full name of the file… it’s the only one that says instrument controller).
  5. The window will walk you through the steps. You will need to hit F1, and then confirm that no objectives are in the light path before hitting “Y”
  6. After initialization, you can close the remote-desktop window… (but don’t close the instrument controller window itself or you will stop the microscope).
